Shamit Gupta

Shamit brings over 20 years of life insurance consulting experience, serving clients across the globe, especially in India and the Asia-Pacific region.

He played an instrumental role in setting up Milliman’s life insurance consulting practice in New Delhi and now leads the practice. This practice provides consulting support to our clients across the globe, including the US, EMEA, and the Asia-Pacific region.

Shamit was also one of the founding members of the Milliman’s Indian life insurance consulting practice based in Mumbai. In this role, Shamit provided consulting support to our clients based in India, Sri Lanka, and the Asia-Pacific region. He continues to serve our clients in India in a limited capacity.He has worked with a large number of insurers in India, Asia, and the US to implement and review a range of financial reporting standards for multiple purposes, including M&A transactions, IPOs, business-as-usual reporting, and methodology, assumption, and model reviews and certifications.

Shamit also provides consulting support to our clients on a wide range of projects, including:

• Peer review of statutory valuations by Appointed Actuaries in India
• Serving as the Independent Actuary on With-Profits Committees in India
• Product development/pricing
• Model development and/or review on a range of actuarial and other commonly used software
• Strategy development/benchmarking
• Market entry/business planning support
• Market reports

Prior to joining the firm, he worked with Towers Watson for more than four years in its life insurance consulting practice in India, where he provided consulting support to clients based in India, the Asia-Pacific region, and across the globe. Shamit has also served as a member of advisory groups of the actuarial profession in India.
